In this week's assignment we looked at Dr. Chaz Austin's Lynda.com video Creating a Career Plan. Thei nformstion in this video is gojg oth elp going forward in our car careers. I never thought about mapping out or writing down a career plan. After watching this, I will defintely be utilizing a career plan.

Dr. Chaz spoke about some really informing thing in the Lynda.com video Creating a Career Plan. Three things stood out to me. These things I will be able to carry forward and utilize in my own career and career plan.

First, creating short term and long term goals. This is something that was taught throughout our educational careers. Here, he defines long and short terms goals by saying, " a long-term goal is something that is the fulfillment of a dream and will take many steps to achieve and a short-term goal is a milestone you need to hit in order to get to the long term goal. One thing that we must remember in achieving our goals is that we can't give up we have to persevere no matter what. Dr. Chaz says that we have to maintain ocus on the long-term goal and be unwilling to allow anything to get in the way. However, on the other foot, we have to realize that it's ok to say we are able to meet that goal right now and we can come back to it. There is no shame in that.

Second, utilizing social media to reach your audience. I believe this philosophy myself. I want to go into social media management so using social media is a must and something that I already actively do. Dr. Chaz says that we can't afford to not be engaged in social media. Especially this day and age. Without it, you risk being seen as out of touch.

Last, improving your verbal presentation skills. I'm an actor so speaking in front of an audience comes naturally to me. However, whenever we get into that one on one situation with someone we're trying to impress or trying to get them to buy into something we want there is always an added layer of pressure. Even for someone seasoned at performing it can be tough. So completing mock interviews, practicing answering questions or even creating a monologue. When I say creating a monologue, here is what I mean. In the world of acting a monologue is something we memorize and perform when we go to an audition for a play. Something like this I can do when I'm preparing for a job interview.

All these tips I will be utilizing in my career going forward. When I'm creating my own career plan these tips will be in the forefront of my mind.
